Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall are engaged

AN ANNOUNCEMENT appeared in the Times newspaper on January 12 that 84-year-old Rupert Murdoch, the media baron who is said to be in the top 100 wealthiest people in the world, would marry 59-year-old former model Jerry Hall.

Mr Murdoch has been married three times before and has six children from the marriages, the oldest being 57 and the youngest being 12. He split from his last wife, Wendi who was 38 years younger than him in 2013 amongst unsubstantiated rumours that she was having an affair with Tony Blair.

Jerry Hall on the other hand has never been officially married, although she was engaged to Brian Ferry but left him for Mick Jagger, with whom she lived for 23 years, and the couple have four children. They went through a Hindu wedding ceremony in Bali in 1990 which was never recognised in Britain and split in 1999 due to Mick Jagger’s alleged infidelities.

According to Mr Murdoch’s newspaper The Times, the couple met in Australia last summer when they were introduced by one of Mr Murdoch’s sisters and his niece and they were first seen together in October 2015 in London.

It went on to explain that the couple decided to become engaged when they attended the Golden Globe awards in Los Angeles on January 10. 

No details of a wedding date have been released as yet but presumably there will not be a long engagement as both are free to marry.
