MALAGA Council this week approved the definitive list of the 244 families that will be benefitting from the birth grants in the different municipalities of the province, four of which will receive €2,000 for multiple births.
The proposal this year, presented by Lourdes Burgos, from the Social Services department, will allow these families to receive assistance to the tune of €1,000, as approved by the government last September.
This means the total payment will add up to €248,000 across the 55 municipalities in the province.
The birth grants were a measure introduced to encourage the growth of the population in municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants, according to a statement from the provincial council.
The requirements, which have had to be complied with in order to obtain the grant, are twofold. Firstly, the birth must have occurred between September 26, 2014, and September 25, 2015.
Secondly, the beneficiary must have been registered in a municipality of less than 5,000 inhabitants before January 1 of 2012, until the introduction of the scheme.
