MANY people had a far better Christmas and New Year than expected thanks to the support received from the HELP Vega Baja charity.
Christmas can be a very difficult time for many people, particularly for those who struggle throughout the year financially to support their families. The HELP committee therefore decided to offer four charities in the Vega Baja area that provide food to families throughout the year, a donation of €2,000 each. These donations were given to Alimentos Solidarios in Torrevieja, Social Services in Benijofar (following an appeal launched by the Spiritualist Church in Benijofar), San Miguel Banco de Alimentos and the Town Hall in Los Montesinos.
The money was used to help provide fresh food throughout the Christmas period and to help stock up the shelves in the charities too. In Benijofar, some of the money was put to one side to ensure that children from the families received a Christmas present from HELP as well as from the Spiritualist church whose members were collecting presents for local children.
Volunteers from HELP visited three of the charities and the President of HELP, Michele Masson said: “It has been wonderful to see the work that is carried out by these charities, in many cases by volunteers who ensure that food is available for those in real need. We hope that the donations we have given go some way to helping and would like to thank all of our members and supporters who have helped throughout the year in various ways to raise funds which has in turn allowed us to support others. Thank you to each and every one of you.”
