AS Europe prepares to see in the New Year surrounded by extra security measures, Belgian police have reportedly arrested six people in and around the country’s capital city on Thursday (December 31).
Brussels had cancelled plans for its main fireworks display on New Year’s Eve following the arrests of two men earlier in the week related to an alleged plot to carry out an attack during the celebrations.
The two men arrested on Sunday (December 27) in Brussels have been named as Said Saouti and Mohammed Karay and are both members of a motorcycle club some members of which are believed to have links to Islamist groups, but it is not yet clear whether the new arrestees are also members of the club.
