The regional government wants to make sure children are attending classes.

THE Territorial Delegation of Education in Almeria has approved grants worth €17,574 for five NGOs that are aiming to prevent and control student absenteeism in 19 educational centres in the province.

Each of the NGOs has presented a project to combat truancy and the money was divided among the five associations.

The projects, which will be carried out with the approval of the school councils of these centres, will attempt to promote increased communication between families and schools.

Additionally, the projects will develop culture, sports and leisure, and educational support activities that will keep students interested in going to school. There will also be an increased emphasis on tracking student absences and new initiatives will be provided, like the idea of picking-up and accompanying students to their respective schools.
