High-flying film producers have set their sights on transforming the luxurious Costa del Sol into an elite movie capital rivalling Los Angeles. Beautiful scenery and a star-studded landscape already attract global super-stars to the acclaimed Euro Weekly News sponsored Marbella International Film Festival (MIFF), while only last week saw the inauguration of world’s very first iFilmmaker International Film Festival (IFIFF).

Stars from 75 countries descended upon the city for the festival which saw Golden Mile Productions team up with MakingNoizeFilms (created by the legendary Mari Cielo Pajares and Gary Stennette) to present 16 nominations for the Goya Awards.

Following hot-on-the-heels of the Marbella’s own festival in October, the new festival swept in a wave of expectation that Marbella will now form part of a creative axis spanning from London to Los Angeles.

In awe of the critical acclaim, Mari Pajares revealed: “Nobody expected such a fantastic reception by the industry internationally.” A representative from Golden Mile Productions said: “We aim to create a mini-Hollywood in Marbella and this beautiful location, which had great feedback from filmmakers, makes it the perfect place for film festivals and also for filming in the area!”

The festival also heralded the arrival of a new British talent, Tara Groves, whose zero-budget feature The Professional won the prestigious award for best horror/suspense film.
