PROBABLE PAIRS: In total, 117 pairs have been formed this year.
THE kite recovery programme in Mallorca is a success this year with 117 probable pairs formed, according to the local government.
That is 40 more couples than last year and is cause for much celebration. Probable pairs is the term used because they have been observed entering or leaving the same nests, fighting with others.
Furthermore at least 93 chickens were born this year, observed in 50 different nests. Good news for this creature which was on the verge of extinction in the mid 1980s when there were only a dozen pairs.
