AHEAD of the long awaited new Star Wars film The Force Awakens launch next week, Han Solo took a trip to Australia to meet and greet his fans.

Original cast member Harrison Ford has walked the red carpet at the Sydney Opera House, expressing delight at the large turnout of fans. “I’m delighted, it’s beautiful,” Ford said as he surveyed his surroundings.

Much to the delight of Star Wars fans around the globe, the veteran actor is reprising his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December, and turned up at the Sydney venue on Thursday 10 for a fan event ahead of the release of the film.

Although the next Star Wars film will not be directed by the movie’s original boss George Lucas, the new director has Harrison’s seal of approval. The Force Awakens was directed by JJ Abrams. Mr Ford said: “The franchise is in safe hands.”

“He brings his own sensibility, his own craft, his own understanding of what the original films were important for, and his own experience as a young person watching them,” he said.

“He’s very much a fan of the original films”.

Star Wars: Episode VII, The Force Awakens opens in theatres worldwide on December 18, 2015.
