Swearing in of the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo.
ON December 9, the Governor of Gibraltar Alison MacMillan, presided over the formal swearing in of the government following the recent elections and the re-appointment of Adolfo Canepa as Speaker of Parliament, who on accepting the post reminded MPs new and old to keep the tone of debate civil and constructive.
With the continued international debate of the ‘Brexit’ and Britain’s attempts to re-negotiate membership of the European Union, the Governor took the opportunity to address MPs and guests, confirming that the UK’s commitment as defined in the Constitution to never discuss or take any action on sovereignty against the wishes of the Gibraltarians was still paramount.
