Mijas has spent just €56,300 on Christmas illuminations this year as it now has its own lights and only has to pay for work to erect the 2,085 LED lamps.
The lights, which the council has spent almost €200,000 to buy over the last four years, include tree lights, angels, animals and other festive signs, the council reported.
Energy and Efficiency Councillor Jose Francisco Ruiz explained that Calle Malaga in Mijas Pueblo will not be having lights this year due to renovation works underway in the historical centre but they would be put up on Calles Carril and San Sebastian instead.
