ON Friday December 4 La Bonne Biere, which had seen the death of five people following the terrorist attacks in Paris, reopened its doors for business in front of a crowd of well-wishers and journalists.

It is the first of the targets to do so and people ordered drinks and sat on its terrace as a sign of solidarity.

A banner above the entrance reads ‘Je suis en terrasse’ – I am on the terrace – a message of defiance popular among Parisians in the wake of the attacks but as a reminder of what had happened, there are still candles and flowers outside the bar as well as the Casa Nostra restaurant, which remains unopened across the road.

Manager Audrey Bily thanked supporters and said the cafe would ‘bounce back’.
