COUNCIL workers in Mijas are once again busy swapping old lightbulbs on the village lampposts for new LED ones in an aim to reduce electricity bills and care for the environment.
The current swap-over, Energy and Efficiency Councillor Jose Manuel Muñoz has reported, will cost €30,000 but reduce bills by €22,000 per year.
Altogether up until the end of October, Muñoz said, the council has spent €400,000 on measures to lower the municipal electricity bills, but as they will provide annual savings of €207,015 their investment will be recovered in less than two years.
Also, department coordinator Jose Francisco Ruiz Fontalba explained, the new bulbs give off more light than those used in the past.
