Surprise guest at barn dance

Los Rancheros Band.

THERE was a surprise guest musician at Javea U3A’s annual barn dance this year.

Unbeknown to even to the organiser – events co-ordinator Krystyna Stefanczyk – the drummer in the group was none other than fellow U3A member and former president Peter Allin!

Krystyna explained: “When I booked the regular band, Los Rancheros, several months ago and got their menu choices, it was in the names of caller Rita and musicians Roy, Raul and ‘Mr D.’ It wasn’t until the night that I discovered that Mr D was, in fact, Mr Drummer … Peter Allin.” It turns out Peter has been drumming for a number of years and he certainly was not out of place, hardly missing a beat.

More than 100 U3A members and guests attended the event at Los Arcos restaurant in Pedreguer, thoroughly enjoying promenading and do-si-doing the night away.

Apart from the fun, the event was also a big boost for Javea U3A’s charity of the year, Help of Denia and Marina, with a grand total of €626 raised from the raffle going to the good cause.

Krystyna thanked local businesses and members who donated prizes and proposed an extra vote of thanks to everybody who had given their help, particularly Margaret and Barry Elsden.
