Death Café in Mallorca
ELENA SUREDA and her husband Javier are owners of the organic café, L’Exquisit in Binissalem. Although trained classical musicians, Elena is now a baker creating tasty cakes and bread in the café’s kitchen whilst Javier attends to the customers with his sympathetic and welcoming style.
Offering more than just a cup of herbal tea or a portion of vegan cake, Elena and Javier offer an slice of community, served up with compassion and understanding.Aside from hosting art exhibitions, book presentations and musical concerts, they are constantly looking for new ways to involve the community. With that the Death Café movement comes to Mallorca.
“Being an organic café means that we want to offer other alternatives to ways of thinking. The subject of death is a difficult one and hard to talk about. We discovered the Death Café concept and we want to bring it to Mallorca” explained Elena.
The first Death Café was held in London in 2011 by Jon Underwood, founder of the movement. It spread quickly and is now all over the world but it has never been held in Mallorca before. The date for this first Death Caféis Friday December 11 at 6.30pm in the exquisite café!
