A MALE participant in the Rodea el Congreso (surround the congress) demonstration held in Madrid in 2013 has been was sentenced to five years in jail and fined €16,000 in a Madrid court on November 23.
The man, identified as Francisco Mo 27, was at the protest on April 25, 2013 and according to evidence presented, when the protestors were moved from the Congress building surroundings to Paseo del Prado, he picked up stones and pieces of pavement and threw them at National Police officers, injuring three of them.
The accused was therefore sentenced to three years and one day in jail for attacking police officers with dangerous objects and one year each for two crimes of causing injuries, and in addition was ordered to pay €5,700, €10,300 and €810 in damages to the three officers.
