Axarquia artist donates work

LOCAL artist Evaristo Guerra has given one of his paintings to Velez-Malaga’s Maria Zambrano adult education centre.

At an event at the centre on Paseo Nuevo attended by the artist, local councillor and teachers, and Velez Mayor Antonio Moreno Ferrer, Guerra presented his latest piece of work, which he has given the centre as a gift to display on its walls.

Moreno Ferrer said in a speech during the presentation: “To talk about Evaristo Guerra is to talk about our very own Axarquia and Velez-Malaga: its almond, orange and olive trees, its sunsets. This painting is a great gift.”

The artist explained that his work symbolises the roots he has grown and the love he has for the area.

Culture councillor Jose Alarcon said: “Teachers want knowledge to last over time and be handed down from one generation to the next and I can’t think of a better way to do this than with this painting, which students will be able to see every day at the centre.”
