Torremolinos Town Hall joined in the celebrations of Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, the most important Indian celebration last week.
Local Mayor Jose Ortiz, accompanied by the Culture Councillor Aida Blanes, went to a reception organised by the Hindu community on Calle San Miguel, by the Feliz Diwali lights, which were put up for the first time this year.
The Hindu community, with about 500 local residents, celebrates the New Year on the Hindu calendar.
During Diwali Hindus often dress up in traditional outfits, share sweetmeats with family and friends, give gifts and pray. This year prayers were held at the Hindu temple in Arroyo de la Miel, and local councillors and Benalmadena Mayor Victor Navas attended.
