THE Balearic Islands closed last month with 454,755 people working and paying in to the Social Security system, representing an increase of 5.3 per cent over the same period of 2014, the highest rate in Spain.
At the beginning of November, there were 67,344 people registered as unemployed, representing a reduction of 10.8 per cent compared to the same month in 2014.
This decrease reflects the extension of the tourist season this year. The number of people who have been unemployed for more than a year is 21,532, which is 14.4 per cent less than a year ago.
However, the percentage of unemployed people who do not receive any benefit is continuing to grow and reached 53 per cent last month.
