SWIMMING siblings Adam and Lucy Stewart have returned from the European Open Down’s Syndrome Swimming Championships in Loano, Italy, with a fistful of medals.
The competition last week saw around 250 swimmers take part from 20 different countries from as far away as Mexico, South Africa, Australia and Brazil, with entries from most European countries. There were five new teams from Eastern Europe and one from Iceland this year.
Adam was entered into seven events, winning one gold, two silver and a bronze with a personal best time in the 200m butterfly. He also bettered his times in all his races by a few seconds. Lucy won a silver medal in the 25m breaststroke bettering her time by more than a second.
The next event is in Elda on November 28 before the brother and sister team start preparing for the Disability Championships in Liverpool and the European Down’s Syndrome Federation Championships.
The Stewart family send their thanks to the Orihuela Costa Arsenal Supporters Club for the large donation and support and also Dolans Bar Via Park III.
