A NEW programme has been launched in Orihuela to promote an active retirement for elderly citizens.
Councillor for Social Welfare, Sabina Galindo, announced the planned activities under the ‘Seniors in Motion’ programme, would start on Thursday 19 at 10am in the El Palmeral sports centre.
Galindo explained: “This initiative is particularly aimed at users who want to participate in a controlled sport, adapted to their physical capabilities.”
Enrolment is free and there are 100 places available.
The councillor added: “The activity also aims to promote social relations and coexistence among the participants, adding an intergenerational factor as we will also have the collaboration of 15 students from IES El Palmeral school helping to organise it.”
Today’s event will then culminate in a fashion show at the Senior Centre Virgen de Monserrate and the staging of a play performed by the theatre group from the Orihuela Costa Civic Centre.
