THE people of the northern Nigerian city of Yola are becoming used to regular attacks by suicide bombers said by officials to be acting for Muslim terrorists Boko Haram.

This time, the explosion took place in the vegetable market in the city as it was closing on the evening of November 17 with the loss of 30 lives and at least 80 people seriously injured.

The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari who expressed his personal shock as well as the condolences of the Nigerian people to Paris on November 14 had actually visited Yola on the same day and said that Boko Haram was close to defeat.

Unfortunately for the people of Yola, the terrorist’s response to this statement was both speedy and deadly.
