LOCAL SPONSORS: Council has started sending letters to Marbella businesses in order to find sponsors.
WITH the wave of recovery gaining strength and the world’s tourism departments surfing high, Marbella is determined not to fall off the top of the cresting surge, and so has decided that in 2016 it will bravely go all out on promoting the destination.
The city, for the first time, will be present with its promotional stand at the five major world tourism fairs: FITUR, ITB, World Travel Market, IGTM and EIBTEM, the main congress, incentive, event and meetings fair.
To ensure this project has little impact on the municipal coffers, Marbella Council’s Tourism Department has launched a project to get local tourism-related businesses (hotels, golf courses and restaurants) to contribute to the expenses in exchange for privileges at the fair they wish to sponsor.
The Tourism Department has designed a €2,000 sponsor package for the first event of 2016. FITUR, the leading Ibero-American fair being held in Madrid, has started sending letters in a bid to find sponsors.
For the ITB in Berlin, to be held in March, which according to Messe Berlin last year saw the volume of closed deals at the show reach €6.7 billion, a central space has been reserved.
According to the Tourism Councillor Miguel Luna, the city can’t attend international fairs with a ‘little table’ in any old corner. “Marbella needs a space of its own where its business people can work with the tour operators,” he said.
For the other three dates there is still time to spare. The World Travel Market in London, the IGTM in Mallorca and the EIBTM in Barcelona will all be held in November 2016 so bookings are not so advanced.
