THE Samaritans in Spain have proudly opened their new drop-in centre at the Punta Marina shopping centre, Punta Prima.
The new facilities are a welcome extension to the charity shop and will allow for a better and more private service for those needing a listening ear.
General Manager Stephen Baker said: “We have a purpose-built, private room which has a separate entrance where people can come in and have chats. It will also house the call centre for the freephone number manned by two staff.”
Samaritans in Spain are now working closely with the Red Cross and Stephen said they are soon to have a room in the Alicante headquarters offering a facility there also.
The official opening of the new facility was carried out by Samaritans’ patron Dave Bull, who said he was honoured to have been asked to join the charity.
British Ambassador Simon Manley and the consular team were also present as he thanked the Samaritans and all the volunteers for their efforts in helping the most vulnerable. “This has been a tremendous success over the last 10 years and I’m to be here at the opening of the next chapter,” he said.
