Dune recovery work nears completion

ON THE BOARDWALK: Officials inspect the restoration work.

RECOVERY work on the Artola-Cabopino dunes is nearing completion and should be done by the end of November, a whole month ahead of plan.

Final touches are being put to the parking areas and informative signs are being installed along the paths, which have already been opened to the public.

The work on the site, which was declared a natural monument in 2003 by the Junta de Andalucia regional government, was awarded to Assignia Infraestructuras in April by the Ministry of the Environment, which gave the company eight months to complete the work.

The project mainly involved creating a perimeter track which delimits more than 30 hectares of protected land and halts unauthorised access for vehicles and pedestrians. Five raised wooden walkways run from this track allowing sand to move freely underneath them.
