BUSINESS owners in the centre of Alicante met with the town planning department, headed by Miguel Angel Pavon, to discuss the licensing laws with regard to hotels, restaurants and bars in the old town.
Pavon confirmed the department will veto licences for new bars and clubs in areas already saturated, but has stressed that in unsaturated areas licences will still be considered. Traders have stressed their disapproval of the clubs and bars, which are creating a negative social impact.
The president of the association of traders has asked that “areas are evaluated to ensure new establishments fit well within that area,” and the decision to allow large shops and supermarkets in the old town has also been criticised. The association has also asked for improved cleaning.
