Job losses experienced in Calpe and Denia

SEASONAL WORK: Denia and Calpe experienced the highest number of job losses for the month of October.

THE Marina Alta finished October with an increase of 488 more people unemployed, leaving a total of 13,936 people unemployed within the region, with the towns of Denia and Calpe experiencing the highest number of job losses for the month. 

The service sector, as usual, was the most affected with 521 people left without a job as the season comes to a close and the winter period begins. In Denia, Servef recorded 210 more people unemployed. The only drop in unemployment was recorded in the construction industry with 83 people gaining work. Calpe and Denia experienced the highest rates of unemployment, while Javea recorded 74, Teulada Moraira 45 and in Ondara there were 24 more people left without jobs.

There were a number of locations that did not register any change, which included Benigembla, Gata de Gorgos and Vall d’Alcala while in a dozen more municipalities jobs were actually created, such as Pego which has 39 less people registered as unemployed and Orba, Pedreguer, Benidoleig and Jalon also registered a small increase in employment. 

Figures show that in October over 3,373 contracts were signed, 87.3 per cent were temporary and 52.5 per cent for part time work.
