Natural park blighted by waste

Fly-tipping is against the law

Discarded furniture, sofas, televisions and general rubbish welcomes visitors and lines the pathways at the foothills of the Serra Gelada Natural Park.

The situation has angered local residents and various visitors and users of the park, who instead of enjoying nature are confronted with a waste ground instead. The rubbish has been discarded on the road connecting Benidorm and Alfaz del Pi, which lies at the foothills of the mountain park.

In an effort to resolve the problem, the town halls of Benidorm and Alfaz del Pi have started to place signs on the trails, to raise public awareness about the need to respect the environment. They have produced more public information about the trails, in an effort to attract more users, which in turn should deter would-be fly- tippers from dumping rubbish in the area as there would be more witnesses to the crime. In the meantime, the town halls have pledged to clean the area and continue to promote their use.
