A local by-law passed on November 4 declaring Santa Eulàlia beach the first ‘smoke-free’ beach in Ibiza.
Councilors for Santa Eulàlia said the decision was partly because of the environment rather than exposure of ‘second-hand smoke’ to sunbathers. The decision could also be due to beachgoers who didn’t dispose of their cigarette butts properly, putting marine fauna at risk.
The council said this will be a pilot scheme at first, and informational banners are to be put up around the beach.
