ALMERIA DIPUTACION: Fulfils functions of a county council
THE Partido Popular supported a motion put forward by the PSOE socialists during a recent diputacion vote.
Both agreed on the need to defend the EU’s Regional Development Fund (Feder) which assists municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. The PSOE expressed fears that these could lose out on funding although speaking for the PP, Miguel Angel Castellon reminded Diputacion members that the European Union sets the conditions for Feder funds.
“We have three €6.25 million schemes for the Bajo Andarax, Levante and Almanzora,” Castellon said. The Almeria Diputacion was one of the few that had used l00 per cent of its FEDER allocation and it had also received a €2.5 million treasury grant, he added. When the time came to vote, the PP nevertheless backed this motion and abstained on another PSOE motion calling for an electricity substation and the Caparacena-Baza-La Rivina power line.
