Heavens open on Gibraltar

A scene from Sunday’s rain

Gibraltar experienced an incredible storm on Sunday November 1 with gale force winds at Europa Point and over 40mm of rain falling in less than an hour.

There were whole areas around Main Street that looked as if they were part of a canal system with the south of Main Street being particularly badly hit. The Victoria Stadium pitch was underwater, scaffolding blew down and there were general road closures.

Queensway which was already a problem because of the road works and pot holes became an even worse hazard as it became submerged and some areas of the steeper parts of the Rock looked as if they were a land of waterfalls.

With a lot of effort from the emergency services, things began to return to normal relatively quickly and hopefully the worst of the weather has now passed.
