SOME 600,000 people are living in flood zones in the Valencia Region.
The Department of Housing, Public Works and structuring of the region has reviewed the Territorial Action Plan Flood Hazard Prevention of Valencia (PATRICOVA). The new study identified more than 200 potential areas of flooding, in an area of between 100,000 and 120,000 hectares, affecting around 600,000 people. The new PATRICOVA plan is adapted to the directives of the European Union and aims to regulate uses in flood zones.
By improving flood mapping, it is hoped the Community can resolve situations of concern, especially ravines which have a high capacity to cause damage.
