Caterpillars of the Pine Processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa)

MUNICIPAL buildings in Benalmadena have received treatment to prevent pine processionary caterpillars, the council’s health department has reported.

Particular attention was paid to the Parque Innova, Luis Vives municipal centre, Arco Iris nursery school and Jacaranda, Miguel Hernandez, El Tomillar and Poeta Salvador Rueda schools.

“Pine trees need to be treated before the middle of November, which is when the caterpillars start to appear. This year we’ve applied a new method to increase safety and respect the environment,” Health Councillor Alicia Laddaga explained.
