Bull-running without the bulls in Huercal-Overa

A HIGH spot in Huercal-Overa’s recently-concluded town fiestas was the bull-running event for children.

There was no blood, no gore, no suffering or peril involved because neither were there any bulls. Some 500 children took part in an ‘encierro’ that set out from the Plaza de la Constitucion, pursuing – and sometimes being pursued by – huge inflatable bulls.

This was the second time that this vegetarian version of bull running was held during the Huercal-Overa fiestas and is sure to be repeated next year, said mayor Domingo Fernadez.
