PRISTINE: But summer took its toll on the islands’ beaches
ALMOST 110 tonnes of refuse was removed from the coasts of the Balearic Islands between May and September, 65,305 kilos in Mallorca alone.
Cleaning co-ordinator Josep Maria Aguila said this is double the amount collected last year by the 33 boats carrying out the service. Weather conditions and high temperatures caused large amounts of plastic rubbish to be washed up on the beaches.
