OFFICIAL OPENING: Authorities gathered to unveil a plaque
ALMUÑECAR’S fire brigade finally has a place to call home following completion of its new fire station.
Local and provincial authorities gathered at the new station to unveil an official plaque and declared the facility open at a ceremony on Monday (October 26). The station, which cost more than €800,000, has been built on a 1,000 m2 plot by the N340 road, the entrance to town and with access to the regional road that connects Almuñecar with the Rio Verde area, which it also covers.
“Today sees the end of more than a decade of broken promises and firefighters going backwards and forwards between temporary facilities,” said deputy mayor Juan Jose Ruiz Joya at the opening ceremony. The deputy mayor thanked everyone involved for helping make the project a reality and congratulated the fire brigade for its excellent work, with words in memory of recently deceased fireman Antonio Ramila Azpiazu.
