ESTEPONA council has been encouraging chess lessons for local school children for many years and has now taken things a step further by training teachers up.
Fourteen teachers from local primary and secondary schools have taken and passed a training course which will allow them to add chess-related activities into their day-to-day lessons, the council reported.
Every year more than 1,800 local children are given chess lessons, which Estepona Mayor Jose Maria Garcia Urbano insists stimulate their intelligence and improve their academic results.
