TWO men have been arrested in relation to the theft of 500 kilos of mangos from an orchard in Salobreña.

The owner of the orchard in Matagallares, Salobreña, reported to the Guardia Civil that his fence had been broken and 500 kilos of Keitt mangos stolen, leading the police force to launch investigations.

Due to suspicions that the loot would be sold on to a fruit and veg distributor, investigations focused on batches of the fruit registered with local companies and one was found that exactly matched the description of the stolen goods.

A 27-year-old Almuñecar farmer was found to have sold the fruit and stated that he had bought it from a 20-year-old man from Molvizar.

Both were arrested and the farmer charged with receiving stolen goods while the younger man was accused of theft. The case has been placed in the hands of a court.
