Art competition supports children’s home

ART COMP: Some of the winners; Gail Willshire, Joanna Foad, Nicola Moran, Gail Coultate and Gloria Howes and their entries

THE seventh local art competition recognised and awarded local artists as well as raising over €200 for the Elche Children’s Care Home.

Held at The Club in Quesada, judges Conchi Trives, Inmaculada Perez Trives and Godfrey Mayes along with many of the viewing public, were very complimentary about all of the work exhibited and six paintings were sold on the day.

First places went to Gail Coultate, Gloria Howes, Joanna Foad, Nicola Moran, Sharon Darnbrough, Maurice Hatfield with Gloria, Joanna and Nicola coming joint first. Ian Ross and Maurice Hatfield received the most votes in the people’s choice with 93 members of the public voting.

Commendation certificates were also given to Gail Willshire, Gloria Howes, Nicola Moran and Brit Nyland.

The art competition is proving a popular event and organisers are already looking for a date for October 2016 to host the event and there are already two entries for the ‘Painting from a Blank Canvas’ event, which will be in March 2016.

  1. Please forgive a rather off-the-wall comment, but can you help me get in touch with Gail Coultate, who is one of the First Place winners pictured in your article?

I am hoping that she will have some memories of Lucy Toller, a remarkable First World War nurse, whom I am researching, and who died in 1962. Gail’s great grandfather married her sister.

Most gratetful if you can help.
