THREE HUNDRED AND TWENTY school children from poverty stricken families in Velez-Malaga are to receive batches of stationery for school thanks to La Caixa bank’s social fund and Malaga Provincial Council.
The campaign, which will provide bags of school supplies to an estimated 9,300 children across Malaga Province, has a budget of €150,000 and stationery is being purchased from local businesses to also help local commerce, La Caixa reported.
Social Services councillor Zoila Martin received the goods from the bank’s area manager Guillermo Martin and local branch managers Francisco Ramos and Diego Gil and explained that her department’s social workers would be distributing them amongst the families which need them the most.
The bags children will receive contain exercise books, pencils, sharpeners, rubbers, glue, scissors, crayons, felt-tip pens and coloured pencils, many of the items schools require parents to provide their children with at the start of the school year.
