ELS PONTETS could have a new pipeline to bring a water supply to residents.
The Town Hall of Crevillente has been meeting with the Special Commission of Water, to discuss possible solutions after a conflict and legal dispute has escalated between two private companies that ran the supply, with one claiming the other owes money. The dispute has affected hundreds of residents in the area, who have been left without a proper water supply.
One possible solution, proposed by the Commission would be to build a new pipeline parallel to that of the Community of San Cayetano. Mayor César Augusto Asencio said that if this was chosen to go ahead, the Irrigation Association Els Pontets could do what it did in its day of San Cayetano, and apply for a grant to the Department of Agriculture to cover part of the costs.
The other measure aimed to bring clean water to the area of Els Pontets would be to build a warehouse store of 120 cubic metres and two booster pumps, although this work would involve an initial investment of nearly €2.5 million and is unlikely to be able to reach all homes.
Reports on environmental impact would be required for both options.
The situation over Els Pontets water has rumbled on for months. Back in May, The Euro Weekly News attended a protest outside Crevillente Town Hall where hundreds gathered demanding the Mayor resolve the water issue with many residents saying they were having to pay for water to be added to their own well on their property.
