UNEMPLOYMENT in Alicante Province has fallen to its lowest level in four years.
The number of those out of work fell by 6,700 people in the province during the third quarter this year, in which the creation of new jobs were concentrated in the service sector, according to data from the Labour Force Survey by the National Statistics Institute.
The average number of people unemployed last summer was 209,800 compared to 216,500 in the previous quarter; putting the unemployment rate at 23.39 per cent of the workforce, its lowest level in the last four years and six points less than the maximum of 29.34 per cent which was reached at the beginning of 2013.
However, this provincial unemployment rate still stands above the national average, which ended in the last quarter at 21.18 per cent.
The fall in unemployment is mainly due to the creation of over 5,000 new jobs.
In the Valencia Region as a whole, unemployment declined in the third quarter of the year in by 2.83 per cent, registering 15,800 fewer unemployed than in the previous quarter.
