MALAGA City’s Christmas lights are due to be turned on on November 27, the council has announced.
This year the contract to install the lights in the city centre has been awarded to Jaen company Iluminaciones Jesus Nazareno, which offered a 30 per cent discount, meaning the final price was agreed at €74,000.
The plan, the council explained, is to have the lights up and ready to be switched on by the last weekend in November so Christmas spirit will be on the streets for the December 6 and 8 bank holidays, when sales tend to start to rise.
Although six companies applied this year for the contract, including Monelec which has been providing the lights in the area for more than a decade, Iluminaciones Jesus Nazareno’s competitive price and promise to provide 20 different illustrations and 10 different arch designs finally won the two-year contract.
