IT was a wet start to the week in Torrevieja and around the Vega Baja as a heavy storm hit early Monday morning.
Up to 44 litres of rain fell in Torrevieja in the area of Aguas Nuevas and 30 litres per square metre fell in the Acequion neighbourhood in the city centre.
The two hour storm caused traffic problems on the CV-90 at the height of the access roundabout to Altos del Limonar and in some areas of the Torretas.
Police also had to close off the entrance to the city from the N-332 at the Park of the Nations for around an hour as surface water was cleared and the storm caused failures in the street lighting across Torrevieja.
The storm was less intense further down the coast in Orihuela.
