HAVING moved from the municipal fairground to a newly created area nearer to the beach, the San Pedro Alcantara Fair opened on October 14 with a bang – thanks to the fireworks – and runs until October 19.

In keeping with the traditions of the feria, apart from the local girls dressed in their flamenco dresses, there is an impressive funfair with big wheel for all ages to enjoy together with the casetas offering snacks and alcoholic refreshments, although there is also a teetotal bar aimed at 14 to 17-year-olds.

Friday October 16 sees the opening of the Marquee Day Fair which includes special bars and an orchestra as well as an evening dance. These and other entertainments continue over the weekend and each afternoon there is a special show from Marbella Broadcasting.

Sunday afternoon sees a ‘dance off’ by various schools of dancing which are numerous in the San Pedro area, followed at 11.30pm by a free concert starring ‘El Canijo de Jerez’ who is the voice and guitar of flamenco-rock band Los Delincuentes.

The closing day sees three different masses in honour of San Pedro de Alcantara, the town’s patron saint plus another day of the fair itself before finally closing in the evening.
