Arms cache found in domestic abuse case in Pechina

UNEXPECTED: Weapons’ haul discovered during domestic abuse investigation.

A GUARDIA CIVIL call-out to attend a case of suspected domestic abuse also uncovered an arms’ cache. Officers were sent to Pechina after receiving a phone call, alerting them to possible domestic violence.

When they arrived at the Pechina address, they found a woman with an injury to her face, presumably inflicted by her 65-year-old partner, and another couple trying to mediate in the argument.

After managing to pacify all four, the Guardia Civil officers noticed four rifles and ammunition in the porch.  They were thrown there by the wounded woman during the argument with her partner, she said.

After searching the house the officers found another rifle and a box containing several handguns and bladed weapons. There were five rifles, 14 handguns, eight knives and 37 cartridges, which the presumed aggressor said belonged to his late father.

He admitted having no paperwork to prove this or a firearms’ permit. Subsequent investigations revealed that two of the handguns were stolen in Germany.

The man was arrested and charged with domestic abuse and illicit possession of firearms. In the meantime, the case remains open as Guardia Civil investigators trace the origin of the other weapons.
