THE Can Pere Antonio beach in Palma has been closed for the second time in a month due to a waste and faecal water discharge.

According to local daily, Diario de Mallorca, the infrastructures, which presented the fault that caused the leak, were renovated recently. The pipe, which takes the waste water to the Molinar water treatment plant, broke under the Conference Palace on Saturday night, at a point which had been diverted and repaired for the construction of the facilities.

Sources at the company in charge, Emaya, said that staff had been working to resolve the issue and that it was necessary to empty the pipe by releasing all waste water to the sea. After this, the red flag was hoisted to prevent beachgoers from bathing.

It is the third time that a leak has occurred in Palma beaches. Back on July 4, Emaya had to close the Ciutat Jardi after the water treatment plant overflew. The second case took place on September 3, where Can Pere Antoni, Ciutat Jardi and Can Pastilla were closed.
