Kids get on their bikes in Torre de Benagalbon

PUPILS from Josefina Aldecoa Infant and Primary School in Torre de Benagalbon will be cycling to and from school on Thursdays as part of a cycle to school scheme launched by the council and the Local Police force.

The scheme aims to encourage cycling as a means of transport and there will be two routes: one from Chilches and another from La Cala del Moral. Both routes run along the coastal path and will meet at Las Gaviotas urbanisation and continue to the school across the Macharaviaya roundabout.

There and back the distance is about four kilometres, the council reported, and cyclists will be accompanied by two Local Police officers from Rincon de la Victoria.

Local Mayor Encarnacion Anaya said: “It is a project that will teach children basic road safety rules and highway code and promote sustainable transport.”

Meetings will soon be held to spread the project to include other local schools, Sustainable Transport councillor Pedro Fernandez Ibar announced.
