Coronation Street actor Jimmi Harkishin was the surprise guest at the MABS annual Party in the Park event in Roda, Murcia.
The star, who plays Dev Alahan in the ITV soap, was on holiday in the area when he was spotted by MABS fundraising volunteer Donna Walsh on the morning of the event.
She told Euro Weekly News that she, along with other volunteers were at the civic centre in Roda preparing the venue for the event when they went to bar next door for a coffee break and she recognised the actor.
She approached him within her capacity as a MABS charity volunteer and explained what they were doing and about the fundraising event. “When he realised it was for cancer he said he would be delighted to come, but he was with friends and didn’t know their plans or what time he would be back. However, true to his word, he did show up,” said Donna.
The surprise and unexpected appearance delighted the hundreds of guests at the event as he was happy to pose for photographs and chat with the crowd. Donna added: “He flew out to Spain the day after the live episode and he seemed quite surprised that we watched Coronation Street here, but he was very nice, very pleasant and seemed a genuine good guy.”
His support finished off another successful Party in the Park event, which has been going since 2009, raising funds for MABS cancer support. The event is the charity’s biggest fundraiser each year and raised €4,163. Organisers wish to thank all volunteers, supporters and the acts who gave up their time.
