Local Javea resident, Peggy Skipwith, has celebrated her 100th birthday at the Javea Golf Club, where she is still a participating member.
A remarkable woman, Peggy was born in 1915 in India and was educated in England enjoying an incredibly interesting life. She was appointed as the deputy director of the Woman’s Royal Indian Navy and awarded an OBE after the war, later moving on to work for MI6. Peggy has lived in Javea for over 47 years and joined the local golf club in 1982, playing regularly ever since.
Only an injury has kept her off the course recently, but she plans on getting back out there as soon as possible. To honour their special member the Javea Golf Club have recently created the Peggy Skipwith Cup, which will be played every October and have made her an honorary member. Amazingly Peggy is as independent as ever, she lives alone in her apartment in Javea and still has a driving licence, so she insists on driving herself where ever she needs to go. Congratulations Peggy from all at the Euro Weekly News!
