National Police have dismantled an illegal gambling den in Calpe. The illegal poker games were being played by up to 11 people, including the bar owner and an employee, and police seized €4,345 during a surprise raid.
The case has been referred to the Gaming Department at the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration.
Police suspect that the bar owner was responsible for the games and in fact ran the venue much like a casino, with money being exchanged for chips to join and leave the tables. At the time of the raid, two tables were in play.
Officers also discovered the cash, more than 500 poker chips in three separate suitcases and multiple decks of cards. Illegal gambling crimes are considered very serious infractions against gaming laws in the Valencian Community.
